Regarding aoe magic dmg after last restart

The red numbers on the chart show the % change on 100% damage, whereas a better indicator of the difference would be to compare the new number to the old. As an example, for the cloak/guarder guys, the old was 1.3125, the new is 1.30, so the change is more like .0125/1.3125=.00952…, or about .9%. As in, 1000 damage is now 991. Whoopee.

But anyhow, the people complaining that their damage got hit are the people that are t3/t4 and trying to AoE. I ran 3 different testing methods on energy bolt this morning using my t4 mage and my t1 mage to determine that tier damage is currently linear with other gears that add % damage. If tier damage was linear before the update, then, taking our cloak/guarder guy at t3, he would be doing 205% now (75% for t3 + 25% + 5%), when before he did 206.25%(75% + 31.25%). His effective difference in damage would be .0125/2.0625=.00606…, or about .6%.

If tier damage was linear before the update, my damage should have gone down by about .58%. As in, if I did 1000 before the update, I should now be doing 994. Allison should still be doing AoE just fine, since allison IS the example I used. And capwne…even if he’s running vala x ts/ammy, h-guarder and cloak of flames, should still be blizzarding temple just fine. Running his numbers, his old damage was 250.165% (.85 + 1.31.051.1*1.1), his new damage would be 240%, so his difference would have been .10165/2.50165=.0406…, or about 4%.

Now, if tier damage wasn’t linear before, allison would be out about 10.7% dmg, I’d be missing about 11.5% dmg ( which would explain why a power doll that gives about a 9% boost to my int would bring me back to nearly how I was hunting before), and capwne would be missing about 21.5% dmg. Cap’s damage decrease would appear to be worse because of the amount of regeneration time he’s giving the mops by using a relatively weak-hitting AoE spell to try and kill them.

The numbers say tier damage wasn’t linear before. To handle some of the side points:

  1. T1 players wouldn’t notice the difference because they aren’t able to see much of a difference due to lack of a tier bonus, on top of not seeing their damage reduction exaggerated by the regen/mr/dr of tougher targets (temple/skaro mops, for example).
  2. T2 guy with a magi cloak probably isn’t doing crazy AoE either, and saw, at worse, a 6.66…% damage reduction, which, again, won’t matter much if he’s not fighting things with high regen/mr/dr.
  3. Most melee players likely saw no difference or a negligible difference in their kill speed with the last update, for a variety of reasons. Commenting on them would take me another whole post.

That’s a good explanation. I do find similar results. Adding 15%SP AND 9%INT to pre-updated stats brings me close to what I was doing before the update. I could hunt that way, but then I’d be wearing/lving 3 armor pieces I don’t wanna use. Not just now, but most likely ever use.

just for your information, capwne lost about 30 to 40 % in magic dmg and small change in melee dmg.
